A plot twisting thriller about a court case gone bad. This book will make you rethink responding to the Jury Duty notice you receive in the mail every year. This book is very "Murder on the Orient Express" esq..... In the end.
The story centers around a group of jurors who come to a decision somewhat coaxed by one of them. This decision has different effects on each of the jurors and even the defendant. Bobby Nock, a part-time English teacher at a high-school finds himself in a precarious situation where he is in a relationship with a 15 year old student, Jessica Silver. Silver is from a prominent, wealthy and well known family. The body is never found but nonetheless, Nock is being tried for her "murder".
** SPOILER ALERT **
Maya Seale, one of the jurors follows the judges orders to a T. She is looking to see if there is a "shadow of a doubt". During Jury Duty, where they were sequestered for months, Maya and Rick, another juror, have an affair against the rules of the court.
Rick writes a book about his negative feelings about Maya's process to convince the jurors but never mentions the affair. Rick continues to "investigate" the crime and ten years after the "not-guilty" verdict, Rick oranges a reunion for a Documentary and Podcast. Rick ensures that he has evidence of Nock's guilt. The plot thickens when Rick is found dead in Maya's hotel room. She is implicated in his murder and that's when it begins the fight to keep her out of jail.
There are twists and turns in this book that continue until the end. Just when you think you have it figured out and that Jessica's murder would never be found, BOOM!!!! they twist it on you. I hope they make a movie out of this book.
I enjoyed the book. I recommend it.
Love how they bashed Twitter with the "F*%k Twitter" line.
